At the Theater Square of Poltava, the traditional Honey Festival was held. Local beekeepers complain that this year, compared to last year, the yield of honey is half that.
Fourteen beekeepers from all over the Poltava region gathered for a holiday to present their products at the honey fair.
Guests of the event could purchase: honey from herbs, acacia, linden, buckwheat, sunflower, pollen, propolis, mother’s milk, honey drinks and honey in honeycombs.
For 1 liter of honey at the fair ask from 100 to 200 hryvnia. Compared with last year, the cost of a sweet product increased by about 20 hryvnia.
“It was a difficult year for beekeepers. In the spring it rained. I have less than twenty percent of honey, ”said Gennady Kashchuk, a beekeeper from the Poltava region. But in the Gadyachsky district, the honey crop that year turned out to be less due to dry weather.
“In recent years, the honey base for bees has become very impoverished. Since almost all the land is owned by holding companies, and farmers have a small amount of land. We rely only on local farmers who can sow buckwheat, coriander, sainfoin, ”said Natalia Senchuk, chairman of the Union of Beekeepers of the Poltava Region.
