The fact that in the near future against the backdrop of the cancellation of flights between the Russian Federation and Georgia may introduce a taboo on the import of Georgian wines, does not please members of the Russian winegrowers association.
Nevertheless, experts in domestic winemaking do not deny that if sanctions are imposed on Georgian products, the domestic rating of Russian wine among consumers could increase significantly.
And then Russian-made wine can eventually become a worthy replacement for the legendary wine-making products from Georgia. This assumption was shared by Leonid Popovich, the head of the winemaking union of the Russian Federation.
In his opinion, if the ban is introduced, the level of competition will significantly decrease, and the buyer will give preference to bottles with Russian wines. At the same time, Popovich is confident that domestic wine, and without sanctions, is a strong competitor in the world winemaking market.
It should be noted that the chief sanitary officer of the Russian Federation does not see anything wrong with bringing wines from Georgia to the country. The main thing, according to Gennady Onishchenko, is that the product be of high quality and comply with all sanitary requirements accepted in Russia.
Moreover, Onishchenko is sure that preserving imports from Georgian wineries will help maintain trade relations between the two countries, which have been established for decades.
