Ukrainian greenhouses put cucumbers of a new crop on the domestic market. In the capital, they are sold at a price of 85 UAH / kg.
The choice of domestic vegetable is great. The sales employee assures that all green goods are tested in the laboratory and does not contain harmful substances.
Experts conducted an analysis of cucumbers from Kiev markets for the presence of nitrates. To check, you need 10 g of vegetable, that is, approximately 1⁄4 peeled cucumber. Three minutes later, the result was obtained. The nitrate content in cucumbers is much lower than the norm: 15.47 mg / kg with a norm of 400 mg / kg. There were two times more nitrates in unpeeled cucumbers than in peeled ones, but still much less than the allowable limit.
Scientists advise not to eat unpeeled cucumbers, buy them only from trusted sellers and be interested in a laboratory research certificate. To protect yourself as much as possible, you need to trim the cucumbers at the tips and peel them off. To destroy nitrates, you can soak cucumbers in water with the addition of lemon juice or ascorbic acid for 30 minutes, a representative of the veterinary and sanitary examination laboratory recommends.
