Irish rural suicide is now one of the most serious problems for society, said Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Coveney.
In the country's agriculture, the most tragic situation is with suicides and self-harm (intentional damage to one’s body for internal reasons without suicidal intent).
The highest per capita rates of such tragic cases are found in the rural districts of Oskommon, Clare, Wexford, Waterford, Kerry, Cavan and Monahan.Experts say this is due to isolation and loneliness, financial pressure, lack of sufficient support and, in some cases, reluctance, especially among men, to seek help. Simon Coveney said the reality of rural isolation is absolute.
“Mental health and isolation in rural Ireland has been and remains a problem for many years. And we must constantly keep our eyes on the community infrastructure, which exists so that people do not feel isolated and abandoned, ”said the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland.Share
