A 64-year-old farmer from Ovidiopol, Odessa region, grows pomegranates, tangerines, persimmons and other heat-loving fruits in open ground.
Yuri Dubinchuk, who owns the Azimina firm, is a true myth destroyer. By his own example, he shows that in the conditions of the South of Ukraine it is possible to harvest crops of exotic fruits, and it is not necessary to have a greenhouse for this. Zoned varieties withstand winter cold at 15-17 ° C. The gardener believes that it is stereotypical thinking like “we will not grow” that prevents farmers from Ukraine to reach a new level. “We cannot develop as an upscale agricultural country while we grow traditional crops of corn or potatoes,” says Yuri Dubinchuk.
The farmer speaks of his business as a business-based educational activity. He not only sells seeds and seedlings of exotic plants, but also gives advice on their cultivation, individually approaching pricing. Seeds cost from 5 to 40 UAH, the price of seedlings starts from 150 to 350 UAH, but there are also expensive plants for several thousand.
Yuri advertises his fruit trees, introducing the population to their appearance and growing conditions. So, Ukrainians have rather vague ideas about persimmons. Not many people know whether it is a tree or a bush. Yuri Dubinchuk helps customers decide on the choice of seedlings, given the climatic conditions of the area in which they will grow.
