They tried to import 200 kg of Polish tomatoes infected with a quarantine organism into Vinnitsa. During the inspection, specialists discovered a dangerous pest that is not common in Ukraine - the South American tomato moth (Tuta absoluta Meyr). The vegetables were decontaminated.
The state food and beverage service in the Vinnitsa region reports that a dangerous pest was detected at the stage of phytosanitary control of the Vinnitsa-Tsentralny customs post in a cargo of fresh tomatoes weighing 0.2 tons and originating from the Republic of Poland.
Phytosanitary measures have been taken for the above cargo: infected fruits are decontaminated by fumigation. In order to prevent such cases in the future, a notification was sent to the exporting country - the Republic of Poland about the non-compliance of the cargo with phytosanitary requirements of Ukraine.Previously reported cases of the import into Ukraine of tomatoes affected by South American tomato moth from Turkey.
Such cargo was detained at the beginning of March this year at the Chernivtsi customs point. 11.8 tons of tomatoes were affected by the pest. A case of 24.9 tons of citrus fruits imported from Egypt infected with a Mediterranean fruit fly has also been reported.
