A year later, in the open spaces of the Altai Territory they will begin to grow a unique soybean variety. Such assumptions are made not only by local farmers, but also by employees of the federal scientific center for agrobiotechnology, which today have already begun to develop an innovative type of soybeans.
The creation of a new variety was caused not just like that: earlier and today Altai farmers cultivated mainly imported soybean varieties, however, as practice shows, they are not adapted for cultivation in harsh Russian conditions.
As farmers note, most foreign varieties are heat-loving, and if they are grown in the changing climate of western Siberia, then very often soy does not ripen to the level of indicators that make it possible to export: the proportion of protein in such soy hardly reaches 38%, which is extremely little for the interest of buyers. In addition, foreign seeds should be sown early, but for Altai conditions this is not very convenient: spring in the region is most often cold.
The head of the Altai Ministry of Agriculture assures that in the event that a new type of soybean is created, adapted for Altai, it will be possible to sow with this crop not 115 thousand hectares, as usual, but about 350 thousand, which will significantly increase the export potential of the region.
