The business project of a chicory cafe in the village of Zaliznyak, Sumy Region, became the laureate of the contest “Incredible villages of Ukraine-2019”. The inhabitants of this village intend to revive the ancient craft - the cultivation of chicory.
The village submitted to the competition its project “Zolotnitskaya Sotka”, which is able to combine the efforts of local businessmen, activists and leaders.
A cafe where guests will be offered a drink of chicory is planned to be located in the premises of the local library. It is emphasized that a drink made from chicory tastes very much like coffee, but it is much more useful.
Chicory
Among the projects of 116 villages, 5 finalists were identified. Soon, representatives of these settlements will present and defend their business plans to receive state support for their implementation.
To grow chicory, you need a deep arable layer of soil. The culture is sown manually or with the help of vegetable seeders. The row spacing is 45 cm. With a sowing rate of 1.0-1.5 kg./ha. seed embedding depth - 3-4 cm.
On one running meter of a line there should be 5.5-6.0 pieces of plants, and on one hectare. - 100-110 thousand pcs. The roots of chicory are collected by the technique for collecting carrots and beets or manually. They are stored in vegetable stores or piles.
