Applying high technology in agricultural production, for the first time in the Vietnamese town of Sa Pa, strawberries are successfully grown on a large scale, providing income and jobs for the indigenous population.
About 7 km from the parish of Sa Pa (Lao Kai) in the direction of Ta Ping village, there is a strawberry garden of the Tang Loy vegetable cooperative, whose area is more than 25 thousand. Each weekend, the strawberry garden of the cooperative invites up to 200 visitors.
Dung strawberry garden is currently grown using the greenhouse method using modern technology, without the use of drugs or chemicals, so the strawberries are of good quality and safe for users.
Currently, growing strawberries in the garden of the cooperative Thang Loy is only enough for on-site delivery. This means that guests can visit the strawberry garden and pick each ripe red berry to take it home. The price in the garden also depends on time, an average of about 10.78 dollars per kg.
More than 4.3 million tons of strawberries are grown annually in the world. Over the past decade, production has grown from 3.2 million tons. The largest producer is the United States - 1.3 million tons per year, which is 30% of the grown volume of this crop in the world.
Ms. Dung was a former government official and had a stable income. However, with a passion in agriculture, when she had a little capital, Dung decided to quit her job to do what she loved.
Thanks to the successful implementation of a project to grow strawberries using high-tech agriculture in combination with the development of tourism in Sa Pa, this contributed to the creation of jobs for the local population, increased awareness of hygiene and food safety in the mountains.
