Agrarians of the Vinnitsa region plan to increase sown area under sorghum from 400 hectares last year to 1.3 thousand hectares this year.
Sowing sorghum has just begun. Sorghum is a heat-loving culture, the optimal time for sowing has not yet passed, said Vasily Temchenko, deputy director of the regional department of agro-industrial development, ecology and natural resources.
The expansion of sown areas for sorghum is caused by the increased need for feed for poultry farming. According to Vasily Temchenko, sorghum is processed into feed and added to the diet of laying hens.Croup of sorghum increases the egg production of chickens, and also positively affects the biological and commercial quality of chicken eggs. One of the largest poultry farms in Ukraine is operating in the Vinnitsa region.
By order of poultry farmers, agrarians also increase sorghum crops. For information, this year sorghum is becoming increasingly popular among Ukrainian farmers. On a national scale, 100 thousand hectares of land are planned for this culture.Given the difficult financial situation and climate change of the country, sorghum is an attractive culture for farmers. When cultivating sorghum, cash costs will be 40% less than when growing corn.
