Andrey Yarmak, an expert on economic issues at the investment center of the UN Food Organization in Ukraine, is confident that Ukraine is a potentially profitable platform for growing premium apples for sale on the domestic market and on global trading floors.
Those apples that have the ideal ratio of sucrose to liquid, attractive plain color and high density of the fruit are considered to be premium. Yarmak is convinced that all this can be grown in Ukrainian fields, where daylight hours last 18 hours a day, and in the warm season (when apple trees enter the active period of vegetation) - a very low percentage of cloudy days.

As a result, apple trees receive as much heat and light as required, and Asian farmers are actively using similar conditions, which are the main global suppliers of high-class apples. In Europe, according to Yarmak, only three countries can follow this positive example and grow premium apples in large volumes: we are talking about Portugal, Italy and Ukraine. And if in the near future Ukrainian gardeners do not take this fact into account, an empty niche will be occupied by enterprising Italians and Portuguese.
