Compared to 2018, German pork exports to third countries increased significantly in the first five months of this year, an increase of 17%.
In contrast, exports of pork remaining in the European Union fell by 7%. compared to the previous year.
The most important buyer of German pork during this period is China with a share of 17%. In second place is Italy, then the Netherlands. These two countries are reducing their imports from Germany. A fifth of its exports are to Italy and the Netherlands.
Among the third countries in the world, export to China, South Korea and the Philippines deserves special attention. However, the Philippines has now banned the import of German pork due to the discovery of pork of Polish origin upon delivery from Germany.
With this measure, the island nation wants to protect itself from the African swine fever, which is spreading more and more not only in Poland. Import from Poland has already been stopped.
For information, egg production in Germany increased in 2018. 1.8% more eggs were released on counted farms than in the previous year. Eggs were increasingly produced in mobile chicken coops. Imports from Poland decreased by 28%.
