Delicious alcoholic beverages can be made from blackcurrant. They will not only have a rich dark cherry color and a pleasant aroma, but also retain the vitamins found in these berries. From currants it is not difficult to even make moonshine at home. Berries can be frozen and cooked from an frozen product, because it will retain all the properties of fresh fruits.
Selection and preparation of ingredients
To make drinks from frozen blackcurrant, you can freeze your own berry or use fresh. When buying this product in a store, you should pay attention to the expiration date and tightness of the package. It is better not to buy frozen berries in bulk - it is not known how long it was frozen.
Before use, the fruits should be properly thawed - put on the refrigerator shelf overnight or put in cold water. To prepare alcoholic beverages (liquors, tinctures, liquors, mash), you should buy quality water or filter.
Did you know? The darker the currant, the more vitamin C is contained in it. So, the berries of the black variety of ascorbic acid are 5 times more than the red ones.
Moonshine and Tincture Recipes on Frozen Black Currant
Below are two recipes for alcoholic beverages - a slightly sweet tincture of fructose and berry mash, a bit like wine, and suitable for distillation for moonshine.
Moonshine
3-4 l 30 min. + 10–18 days for fermentation
baked pressed yeast
300-350 g
Nutritional value per 100 g:
- Grind thawed currants in a mixer in mashed potatoes.
- Place the currant puree in a metal 25-liter container and pour water.
- Add sugar and mix everything.
- Then add crushed yeast and mix again.
- Close the lid and put in a warm place to roam for 10-15 days. The readiness of the mash is determined by taste (without sweetness) and the absence of fermentation.
- Drain the stew and filter. Now it can be used for distillation for moonshine or direct consumption.
- The resulting currant mash is driven through the moonshine still twice. At the first distillation, select distillate until the strength drops to 30%. Then you need to dilute it to a 20% alcohol content and again pass through the apparatus. In the second distillation, the first 200 ml (or a little more) are discarded separately and are not used for drinking, since the first fraction is harmful. As soon as the strength in the stream begins to fall below 40%, distillation should be stopped. Dilute the resulting product to 40–45% in a glass jar and seal tightly. Allow the drink to stand for 3 days and can be consumed.

TinctureBeverage storage features
Ready-made alcoholic drinks from blackcurrant should be stored in a glass container, tightly corking. For storage, you should choose a cool place without access to sunlight (refrigerator door or basement). If the brew is going to be distilled, then it can be stored in such conditions for no more than 3 weeks, but it is better to use it in the first week.
For direct consumption, the mash is recommended to drink for 5 days, and tincture or moonshine from a fermented product can be stored for 1-2 years. If you have frozen a lot of currants, then various alcoholic drinks can be made from a similar product. Their manufacture will not be difficult, and the result is a fragrant drink. If desired, even moonshine can be made from such berries.
